Dr. Pedro Paulo Gattai Gomes is an accomplished scientist with over 20 years of extensive experience in the fields of molecular biology, nephrology, and biochemistry. His academic journey is marked by a Ph.D. and a Master's degree in Nephrology, coupled with a Bachelor's in Physical Education. Dr. Gomes' research portfolio spans cutting-edge topics such as mammalian cell culture, stem cell research, genetics, and bioinformatics, solidifying his expertise in both basic and applied sciences. Over the years, he has published 13 scientific works, including nine research articles, four book chapters, two books and a doctoral thesis, showcasing his dedication to advancing knowledge in life sciences.
Throughout his career, Dr. Gomes has held diverse roles that highlight his versatility and commitment to scientific excellence. His postdoctoral research at the University of Sao Paulo investigated the role of microRNA-26a in breast cancer and renal tissue repair, leveraging advanced cellular and molecular biology techniques. As a laboratory supervisor and educator, he has mentored students, ensured laboratory quality control, and taught biochemistry to undergraduate students. Furthermore, his tenure as a scientific advisor has allowed him to bridge academia and industry, providing insights into molecular biology applications, leading technical seminars, and supporting commercial innovation in biotechnology.
Dr. Gomes has successfully led and carried out numerous high-impact research projects funded by prestigious institutions such as the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). His leadership includes groundbreaking studies on microRNAs role in tissue repair and cancer signaling pathways, as well as innovative projects in genomics and animal models of acute kidney injury. His ability to manage multidisciplinary teams, secure funding, and deliver actionable insights has been instrumental in advancing understanding in nephrology, molecular biology, and cancer research.
In addition to his research and teaching achievements, Dr. Gomes is a seasoned peer reviewer, having evaluated more than 285 manuscripts for ResearchHub Foundation, where he serves as an invited peer reviewer. His role involves providing insightful and detailed critiques of preprints and manuscripts, ensuring the highest standards of scientific rigor in molecular biology. Besides this, he has more than 10 years serving as voluntary peer reviewer for 20 indexed international scientific journals (American Journal of Nephrology, Kidney&Blood Pressure Research, Nephron Journal, Urology (Ridgewood), Journal of Cellular Biochemistry, Journal of Cellular Physiology, Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia, International Journal of Sports Medicine, Growth Factors (Chur, Switzerland), Laser in Medical Science, PloS One, Frontiers in Medicine, Frontiers in Genetics, Frontiers in Plant Science, Frontiers in Immunology, Frontiers in Psychyatry, Frontiers in Nephrology, Frontiers in Physiology, Physiological Reports, GigaScience Journal), for which he already reviewed more than 60 articles up to now.
He also serves as a Section Editor for Bentham Science (Current Bioinformatics Journal) and as Editor, Medicine and Biomedicine for Cactus Communications, further contributing to the global research community by selecting and curating high-impact manuscripts. His expertise is frequently sought in international conferences and invited talks, reflecting his reputation as a thought leader in his field.
